Injured…again.
It’s January!! …and in my world that means it is time for an injury. This time it is especially hard to take because I was finally getting back into the swing of things after my hip surgery. I had hit my 1st week of 70 miles and was looking forward to getting up to 90 within the next month. I guess I can say bye to my 90’s now.
I was just thinking about it the other day, and I have had an injury that has required at least 2 weeks off in January for 5 out of the past 6 years.
Has anyone else experienced a common trend of injuries like this?
I do not know why it happens every January. Maybe my body just doesn’t like the cold or something…or maybe I eat too much during Christmas…or maybe my body knows how long Track season is and it is forcing me to rest. I am yet to figure it out and it is driving me craaaaazy!
I am in the unique position of being with a coach and training with the athletes at the same time. It is exciting to hear how hard everyone trained over break, yet frustrating at the same time because I was unable to. It is hard to go out to practice and watch all the workouts while I have my choice of being stuck in a weightroom sweating my butt off on an eliptical machine or in a pool freezing my butt off while I aqua jog.
My friend came up to me the other day and said…”I don’t need a calendar anymore, I just know that when you get injured it is time for the new year.”
Sorry for the depressing tone this bloglette has portrayed, but I needed to vent somewhere and that’s what blogs are for, right?
On a positive note, I know that as much as it sucks not being able to train now, I have plenty of time before I really need to run fast and I know I can be ready since I have done it in the past. It would just be nice to see what would happen if I actually got in a solid pre-season base.

when do you need to be able to run fast? hope you recover quickly.

Well, USA’s are the last week of June, so sometime before then. There is a race I want to run really well at which is the last weekend of March or first weekend of April. To make a short answer long, I want to run fast somewhere between the end of March and the end of June.

It’s not quite the same as always being injured in January, but I always get injured when I train for a marathon. 6 of the last 7 marathons. Ug.
Now I’m trying for a 50 miler, hoping that going slower will be safer.
